June Favourites.

Another month has gone by (so quickly!) and we're now past the half way point in 2016! How time flies!!! I'm back in Birmingham for the Summer, trying to save money for my second year at University. It's actually crazy how much I miss London and all the amazing people I met while I was there. Overall, it's been a very tense month in England due to the Referendum and the weathers just been awful, so I'm hoping July will be a much happy month for most. I've had quite a bit of free time on my hands recently, so there's going to be a lot of book and movie reviews coming soon. I'm currently binge watching all the horror films on our Sky Box but if anyone has any suggestions please leave them in the comments below! This post contains some of the things that made it on to my favourite's this month, all photos are taken from Google Images. Hope you enjoy!

Movies & TV.

My favourite movie of this month is called "Circle" released in 2015. It's a horror/thriller sci-fi about 50 people who are trapped in a room and forced to play a game where only one of them will get out alive. This is an except of the plot from Wikipedia... "Fifty people wake up in a darkened room, arranged in two concentric circles around a black dome. Noises sound when they attempt to move or touch the others. When someone ignores the warning and leaves formation, a beam from the dome kills him. As the others panic, a man attempts to calm them. In mid-sentence, he is killed by the device. Thereafter, every two minutes, another person is killed. After several people die, they realize they can vote for who dies. When nobody votes, one is selected randomly." I really like science fiction movies/novels and this fits in with that genre perfectly. The storyline didn't really go into too much detail about what was causing the people to play the game so there was always an element of mystery there too - right until the end. There were several hints to an alien abduction but you never saw the aliens which I liked. There were even points where I was screaming at the television because of the unexpected twists throughout. Overall it's a really great film and one that I'll recommend to others. I'd definitely say it was more of a thriller-mystery than a horror. It's got an absolutely incredible ending too that makes you want to know what happens next. If they made a second movie I'd be first in line to watch it. If you've seen this movie and liked it I'd recommend "In Time" (2011) and "Unfriended" (2014)

This months favourite for TV is "Love Island." It's been on every day this month and is still being aired on ITV2. For those who haven't had chance to watch it (or for those who don't live in the UK) it's about Brits going abroad to a villa to find love. They're put into pairs and some of them really get along and others don't, but the public vote for their favourites and can kick people out of the villa at random points. This season has been FULL of drama and big characters. There was a point where I couldn't stand the show because of the screaming whenever someone would get a text (to announce a new arrival or a couple going on a date) but this past week I've fallen in love with it again. Personally I'm rooting for Cara and Nathan to win.

Make-Up Product.

I've recently re-purchased the "Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation" and I have to say I've really been loving it. I used to wear this foundation in high school and as I got to college I began trying other brands but this one is definitely worth the money for those with oily skin and I haven't noticed any recent breakouts either! You can't really use a beauty blender with the consistency because to do that you have to pour the product onto your hand and it ends up wasting a lot of the foundation so I recommend using just a simple foundation brush. The coverage is truly amazing and it gives a skin-like finish rather than a cake-like texture. I get mine in the shade "Ecru" which is still a little bit too dark for me but when I blend it down my neck and add contour/highlight it's not too noticeable and it doesn't oxidise either. You can definitely tell the difference between higher end foundations and ones from the drug-store. This foundation stays on all day and doesn't flake anywhere. The coverage stays consistent and matte all day. I normally get patchiness around the nose and chin with other foundations and I don't get that with this one! It's perfect if you have oily skin.

Musical of the Month.

My favourite musical for this month is going to "Heathers" based on the movie (which starred Winona Ryder) and made it into numerous Cult film lists. I really love the music in this show as every song is extremely catchy. I wish they'd bring this show to the UK or maybe take it on tour as I think it's one that will attract a lot of attention from older fans - of the original movie - and be well received by the newer/younger audiences. The costuming is very cute, along with the choreography but I just wish there was a little more setting. If you like Heathers the film or musical, you'll probably enjoy the TV series "Scream Queens" which only has one season at the moment!

Song/Album of the Month.

When this movie originally hit the cinema's I was completely freaking out because Cher hadn't done anything in quite a while and being a massive fan I had to go and watch it as soon as possible. I instantly downloaded the soundtrack when it came out and fell in love with all the songs. Recently because Olivia was dancing to a lot of the numbers in her dance show, we both decided to sit down and watch the movie again. It's always been one of my favourite films but after watching it again I've been listening to the album on repeat. My favourite Cher songs are "Welcome to Burlesque" and "You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me." My favourite Christina song from the album is "Tough Lover." If you haven't seen/heard this movie/album I definitely think it's a must see.

Book of the Month.

I've just purchased the sequel to "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" because I enjoyed the first one so much. I got the first book when I bought "The Girl With All The Gifts" at Waterstone's. They were sat next to each other and Waterstone's had a buy one get one half price sale on, so I thought "why not?" and now I'm addicted! Ransom Riggs writing is so engaging and he really draws you in to the adventure. I really can't wait for the movie adaptation of the first book - even though they've swapped Emma's power with Olive's and no doubt changed many other things - however, I love all of Tim Burton's movies so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one. "Hollow City" is the second book in this series and from the minute I started reading it I didn't want to put it down. The story is so original and I love the overall look of the book also. There are high quality images throughout that look just like the cover art to the right. You can buy the book for £6-£7 on Amazon which I think is a complete steal. I'd pay £12.99 for a copy of any book with this kind of quality in it. I also really love the story behind how Ransom Riggs came up with the idea for this story - where he bought hundreds of old fashioned photos from charity shops/antique stores/etc and began to work around the images he'd found. It's such a creative way to write a story. A total recommend 10/10 series, perfect for train journeys, late night reading or holidays.

Skin & Hair Care.

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a HUGE fan of LUSH. From "Fall of Grace" to the "Tea Tree Spray" I've tried many products over the years - let me know if you want a review on a particular one! - and now they've come out with the "Shower Jellies" which are SOOOO worth the hype. I'm totally in love with the Whoosh one which is blue in colour. It smells so fresh and it makes your skin feel really new and cleansed. They're incredibly relaxing and this is now going to be a staple in my life because it's also so inexpensive! I feel so de-stressed after using this product, it's INCREDIBLE! I'm going to be writing a post all about the products I purchased from LUSH recently and about my experience there.

For hair care this month I have another product from LUSH, I'm a bit obsessed really. I've wanted the Avocado Co-Wash for the longest time because it smells absolutely gorgeous. A Co-Wash is a conditioning wash that helps damaged and dry hair. It's also amazing for any ladies out there with really coarse hair! I sometimes get a dry scalp and my ends often break-off because of previous hair dying (I'm now growing my natural hair out but the ends, although stripped, still have the after effects of hair dye) which leaves it feeling like straw sometimes, especially after using heat. This product is meant to help repair that damage! If you'd like a step-by-step on how to use this there's a great review and how-to on Little Yellow Butterflies Blog. I absolutely love Avocados as well (which is what drew me to the product in the first place) so I feel like I've now found the perfect product thanks to the amazing staff at the Birmingham LUSH store. After using this product and the shower jelly I feel like I smell like a yummy sweet, I think that might be the Apple Cider Vinegar coming through but it's my favourite LUSH scent EVEEEER! Both these products are 100% amazing.

Movie Review: Fantastic Four (2015)

Today me and my brother decided to finally watch the newest "Fantastic Four" movie. We both have mixed reviews about the characterisation and plot, etc. I personally didn't mind the film but my brother (Joe) didn't like it at all. There wasn't much action in this movie until the last half an hour, as it was mostly plot set up. It took a long time for them to get their powers which annoyed Joe a little as he's read the comic books and didn't feel they needed that long to get into the action, which is what mostly attracts people to these kinds of films. The cast was much younger than the 2005 version. It was mainly the character of Reed Richards that I favoured in the earlier version as he was older and felt more of a leader than the 2015 version who fit the target demographic of the younger audience and ran with it excellently. I didn't feel like there was a good sense of relationships between the characters, whereas in the 2005 version there was banter between all the characters and chemistry. The effects were great in this movie, I just wish there was more action. I'd definitely like a second movie as I feel that this one was just the set up to something that could potentially be fantastic. This version is definitely aimed at a younger audience and I'd watch a second movie if they made one.

Nanshy Marvel Blender Review.

 Follow My Makeup Instagram @Livalisonmakeup
Today I'm doing a review on the "Nanshy Marvel 4 in 1 Blending Sponge" which I purchased at IMATS but you can buy this product online with the link provided. My first thought was how soft the sponge was so I then went ahead and soaked it in water and it almost instantly expanded! I squeezed the sponge to get rid of the excess water and it stayed the same size and it was extremely soft. My foundation blended out beautifully as did my concealer and cream contour, however it does soak up the product a tiny bit but nothing major. The different shapes around the sponge allow you to blend every part of the face. For £5.95 this sponge is a steal!

Mary Lou Manizer by TheBalm Review.

Hey guys!
I bring you another quick make-up review. This one is about the "Mary Lou Manizer" created by theBalm. I would say if you're looking for a natural highlight for day and night then this is the perfect product for you. I wouldn't say that it's a very powerful or strong highlight like the "Jeffree Star Skin Frosts" or even the "Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighters" which are extremely pigmented and very worth the price in my opinion. I got the Mary Lou Manizer in October and I hit pan a while ago. I don't use it everyday and it's almost run out. I don't know if I'd repurchase this just because I personally like a really strong glow and it's subtler than other products I've tried. I do really like how it lasts all day and how it goes on so smooth which to me is one of the most amazing qualities in a highlighter especially if you have very textured skin. The colour of the product is a cool toned champagne but if you've got a warmer undertone then theBalm also do a highlighter called "Betty Lou Manizer" which has more of a gold base.

Hope you all enjoyed this review,
Lots of love, Alexandria.

Voting in the EU Referendum.

Just a quick post to remind everyone to vote today in the EU Referendum. I shan't be posting my own political views here but I do think it's extremely important to vote (for everyone who is able). Your voice is just as valuable as someone else's and this decision could have a massive effect on our country. If you'd like more information on how to vote here's a link: https://www.eureferendum.gov.uk/ Voting closes at 10pm tonight.

Inglot Gel Eyeliner (Black) Review.

[Image above from the lashes.com] Ok! So today I am reviewing the Inglot Gel Eye-liner in the colour black! This product is AMAZING! I love it! I lightly dipped my eye-liner brush into the product and that tiny bit of product went a long way. I only needed 2 dips to complete my liner look. The gel is so smooth I barely felt like I was applying anything and it dried so quickly. It's also so long wearing, it doesn't even come off in the shower! I recommend you use an eye make-up remover as it will help to remove it easily. I don't recommend you scrub off the eye-liner! So I definitely recommend that you buy this if you want that perfect liner.

Introducing Olivia to This Blog!

Hello friends! As many of you already know I have a younger sister called Olivia who will be joining this blog in the next week. She's currently studying to become a make-up artist and I couldn't think of anyone better to share this site with when I began thinking of ways to expand it. Olivia will be posting make-up reviews, swatches, tutorials, ect - whatever takes her fancy really but it will mostly relate to beauty. I will continue to post my own things in the beauty genre also, however posts will be signed with either "Alexandria" or "Olivia" from now on, just so you're aware of who's writing what. As some of you can probably tell this blog has also had a make-over recently and will continue to be edited, until it features more about the work myself and Olivia do together. So I welcome her to this space and can't wait to read anything she writes in the future!

Much love,

What's On My iPhone?

Hey guys, so I thought I'd do the "What's On My iPhone" tag as I've recently customized my iPhone's home screen and app covers, and have had a couple of questions about how I did it and also about what apps I use on the daily. This blog post includes a list of all the apps on my iPhone at the moment and a "how to" on customizing your home screen like in the image below to make it more personal to you. Let me know if you want one of these for the iPad also! Hope you enjoy reading and much love for the rest of June. The image above is from...

My Top 10 Apps.

  1. TWITTER - I use Twitter every day. I'd definitely say it's my most used social media outlet, my link is... @letterwrighting.
  2. SPOTIFY - With Spotify you get access to all songs rather than just the ones you have to pay for in the Apple Store. They're also doing an offer at the moment (3 months of premium for 99p) and you can make your own playlists for free! MY TOP 100 SONGS.
  3. UNiDAYS - A discount app (if you're a student) for shops online and in store: including BOOHOO, New Look, Topshop and More. The discount ranges from store to store but it's a really useful app to have on your phone to save you some money.
  4. LINE Camera - My favourite editing app by far! I use the "Auto Level" setting and the "Auto White Balance" along with the "Sharpen" tool.
  5. SECRET FREE - I'm a massive fan of Starbucks and recently found out that they do a secret menu and this app gives you loads of cool recipes to try out!
  6. SUBWAY/NANDOS/STARBUCKS LOYALTY CARDS - These are the only loyalty cards I use/have on my phone and they're all my favourites because they give you free food and drinks.
  7. GOODREADS - An online bookshelf that allows others to see what your currently reading, what you've read and what you plan to read. It also gives you book recommendations!
  8. LINELEARNER - This app is perfect for actors or those who need to learn scripts. You can get the "lite" version which is free but it's so good I recommend paying for the fuller version.
  9. GOOGLE CALENDAR - This is the only planner/diary I use because it's so customizable. The layout is perfect and you can change the colour of your events or tasks once you've completed them, so it's like a to-do list as well!
  10. SAILORDROPS - I've literally been so addicted to this game. It has a Sailor Moon theme (the animated TV show) and it's a bit like bejewelled but with more things - like keys, characters and levels - to unlock.
The other apps that I've downloaded (the ones that I use on occasion or are just there for when I need them) ... Tumblr, Uber, Snapchat, Youtube, Instagram, Apple Music, Blogger, Wunderlist, Soundcloud, Messenger, Facebook, Amazon, Psych, Ebay, Charades, Bubble Birds 4, Kindle, Whitagram, Canon Print, Ticketmaster, Runkeeper, Bunny Free, unfollow, TodayTix, BENADRYL, Outlook, Shazam, Paypal, Google Maps, Piano Free, GarageBand, FreePrints, Cake, Music Notes, InsTrack, Blackboard Mobile Learn, Bloglovin. Let me know in the comments below what you're favourite apps are or if you have any suggestions for me to download!

Soooo as for appearance, my iPhone home screen currently looks like the picture above. It's very floral vintage (pinks, purples, pastels) and the app I used to get it looking like this is called "Cocoppa". It creates short-cuts from safari which appear on your home screen (with pretty covers attached) and you get to choose which ones you like through the app. You can also mix and match short-cut covers from different artists or just use one set and make them all the same. I put all of my original apps into one folder so I can find them all easily and to also make everything look neater. My lock screen at the minute is pink and glittery.

Being Related To A Make Up Artist.

Hey guys, as you can see from the photo above this post is all about my sister and what it's like to live with her/be related to someone of her craft. This year she's going off to University, a year earlier than normal! After booking numerous clients, she's made a Facebook Page, Instagram, Website and Blog to showcase her work. Please check out the links and have a look through the things she's done so far at College and at home; from beauty and prom to theatrical and special FX. This blog post contains five things that often occur from being related to a make-up artist. Hope you enjoy!
  1. Her make-up is EVERYWHEREEEEEE! All around the house: Olivia owns so much make-up now (as she's building up her kit for clients) that it tends to spread all around the house into every single room. She has bags and shelves of make-up to the point where I think she needs to rent somewhere else to store everything and while I was away at University apparently my room was turned into just that.
  2. The fear you feel when her fake-eyelashes are lying around!!! When her fake eyelashes aren't on her face, they're lying around the house and they literally look like spiders and I jump out of my skin when I see them. The lashes look like spiders legs, especially after they've been used a couple of times.
  3. Never ask to borrow her make-up! She doesn't like to waste any of her make-up as she uses it on clients, so she'd rather keep it for herself which sucks when I want to steal her new shade of lippy!
  4. She's up to date with all the trends... even the weird ones. From overdrawn lips to an extra strong contour, she can do it all and everyone has an opinion but despite it all she stays true to herself and what she likes. There isn't a trend that she hasn't heard of. When I'm at University she always keeps me up to date which I really appreciate!
  5. All her money goes on make-up! If it's not related to make-up she doesn't want to buy it and I think she'd spend all her money on it if she could.
I feel extremely fortunate to have a sister like Olivia. She's my best friend and the most talented person I know and I can't wait to see her grow as a make-up artist and follow her journey as her business grows and grows. I love you to the moon and back, Squish!
