MOTD: On A Clear Day You Can See Forever.

I recently watched this movie, starring Barbra Streisand and I fell in love with it completely! The songs are all so beautiful that I began learning them for my rep straight away - particularly "He Wasn't You" and "What Did I Have That I Don't Have." The costume department definitely didn't scrimp and scrap with this film budget. Some of the outfits were truly iconic, as you can probably tell from the small picture above which will be linked HERE. The plot follows a young girl called Daisy who goes to a hypnotist in the hopes that he'll be able to stop her from smoking. When under hypnosis, Daisy reveals that she is the reincarnated 'Lady Melinda Winifred Waine Tentrees' who happens to be the kind of woman Daisy always wishes to be. Daisy is meek and mild, a people pleaser. Lady Melinda is a sexy and brave life-lover. The hypnotist records the sessions in the hopes of finding out more about Lady Melinda and the plot thickens from there. It's such a clever concept and it's something I would love to see done on a West End Stage so fingers crossed! We're getting 42nd Street back so you never know!

Book Review: The Miniaturist.

The photo above is from: paperbackcastles: a blogger who posts really in depth quality book reviews. My gran this year for Christmas got me "The Miniaturist" and a few other books that I'd been dying to get my hands on and I have to say, the minute I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. Jessie Burton is so clever with the language she uses and isn't too obvious about where the plot lines will go, which made the whole thing incredibly gripping. The characters are all wonderfully complex and everything makes sense. It all flows together nicely. Sometimes, I feel, with dramatic books they get a bit tedious because a random death will occur for no reason (as an example) just to make the plot feel more interesting but with this book everything that happens feels natural and almost inevitable - but not in a straight forward manner. I didn't guess many of the plots twists and turns which is something I enjoy because my mind will always jump to the conclusion and I like the element of surprise this book gave me numerous times. The themes of the book are really well thought out and you can tell that Burton has been researching the piece for years. I love that it's also based on a real doll house owned by Petronella Oortman too! It adds another layer of realism to the work. I rate this book a full ten out of ten and recommend it for anyone who wants something exciting and gripping with brilliant characters and story lines. This would be perfect for a train journey, going on holiday or even just chilling at home.

First Post Of 2017.

2016 has finally come to an end and today's the first day of a brand new year! Looking back I've done so many amazing things this year and I can't wait for another 365 days of whatever life throws at me. I've set myself some goals for 2017, ones that I think I'll be able to achieve if I put my mind to it. I'm going to really work on my piano playing and my music theory. In 2016 I was starting to get somewhere with the piano and things were starting to connect because I practised more regularly. My aim is to practise a lot more this year! I also want to read 25 books (not including plays) as I managed to read 21 this year, but I want to challenge myself a little bit while still keeping the goal realistic and achievable. I hope you all had a really fun Christmas and New Years and that your 2017 is the best it can be.
